Raising Worms in Your Kitchen
Posted Under: Farm Ranch
There has been a large following for making our environment a little greener. There are many reasons why, but the main point is that there is a cultural shift towards being aware of nature and the enviroment sourrounding us. One of the best ways to make your house a little “greener” is to start a worm farm!
Worm farming has been around for a long time.In fact, many businesses make all their money from this.If you want, you can actually grow worms right in your own house.
So, what is the benefit of this ?A big plus to having a worm farm is that your regular household waste can be eaten by the worms.Instead of throwing away trash in your kitchen; feed it to your worms, as they will eat almost anything.Society will benefit as well, because you will be feeding your worms instead of adding garbage to the local land fill!
Another benefit of worm farming is that the worm castings are great for your lawn and garden .”Worm Casting” is what is left after the worms fully digest the food.Lawn enthusiasts and others commonly use this effective by product. In fact, many people pay top dollar to have this worm fertilizer shipped to them by the pound.
So, now for free you can take the results of your worm farm (the worm castings) and simply sprinkle some of it on your lawn like you would a normal fertilizer.Don’t be surprised when your grass turns very green; after watering it as well.In addition, add this worm poop to your vegetable garden and watch it thrive.
So, its just fine to begin raising worms in your house. There is not much needed to begin. To get started you just need a few things: worms, a container, worm bedding, and worm food (garbage). You can shred some newspaper and cardboard to make worm bedding. Also, dont forget that worms like dirt, so add some of this in addition.
You will be making the world a little greener by raising worms, and you will have reduced your household garbage and made your lawn a little greener.
