Horse Fencing – Wood, Plastic Or Barbed Wire?

With so many things to take into consideration, like the durability and safety, the horse fence you choose is a long-term decision. After all, this isn’t going to be something you want to have to replace often, so the costs and long-term maintenance levels are important too.

1. Wood

This is a well-known and common choice for horse fencing. It has a long history of being used as simple garden fencing and also horse fencing. There is no denying the likeability of this material, but it does have its downsides. The main thing to bear in mind is that it doesn’t help the environment. Wooden fences often have to be replaced quite frequently which contributes to the environmental damage.

2. Plastic

Plastic is a modern-day alternative to the traditional wooden horse fencing, and it is a great choice. You can do so much with plastic horse fencing and it is much better for the environment overall. If we all stopped using wood as much and opted for plastic instead, we would all help the environment. Many fencing experts are openly advertising the fact that plastic horse fencing is a great choice, but it is still taking time to convince some people.

3. Barbed Wire

This is less common these days but it is still an option. Animal lovers would argue that this is not a good horse fencing choice as the horse could wander up to the fence and hurt themselves on the barbed wire. Anyone with young children would have to keep them away from the fence, so surely the best horse fencing solution is to choose something safer like plastic.

You could always consider some of the other horse fencing options, like the electric fence, but in all honesty, it is the plastic fence which is the safest and most environmentally friendly option.
