Hundreds of different types of turtles are known these days. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. You can find some which are totally aquatic, and others that are only semi-aquatic. Some live in fresh water and others in the ocean. Most have hard shells, but some are known for having soft shells. Here is a list of a few types of turtles.

On the other end of the spectrum to mini turtles, the largest freshwater turtle which is discovered on the continent of North America is the Alligator Snapping Turtle. It isn’t as aggressive as the more common snapping turtle, but it is bigger. The Alligator Snapping turtle is noted not only for its size, but in addition for its capability to remain underwater for almost an hour. They are mostly discovered in the northern areas of Florida, South Carolina, and in the Missouri River.

The biggest turtle in the world can be located all over the world. It’s the Leatherback Turtle. The strange thing about it is that it does not have a shell. It just has flesh and skin where the shell would be. It could be found in the seas all over the world.

This kind of turtle is known for climbing trees. It is the Big-Headed Turtle and is located in China, Thailand, and Vietnam. Along with climbing trees, the Big-Headed Turtle will also sometimes arc its tail like a scorpion. As its name suggests, the Big-Headed Turtle has an extremely big head, so much so that it isn’t actually in a position to pull its head into its shell.

The Green Sea Turtle is an endangered species of turtle, and is a rather huge species of sea turtle. It’s mainly discovered in tropical and sub-tropical places around the planet, and has two different populations in both the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the fact it’s an endangered species, harming, killing, and collecting them is illegal.

There’s one species of turtle that may be located in captivity around the world. It is the Red Eared Slider Turtle. In the wild, they are mainly discovered in southern United States, especially in the Mississippi River. They get their name from the red markings they have along the sides of their ears. The Red Eared Slider Turtle is among the most popular types of turtles which are kept as pet turtles.
